Morocco PM takes aim at federation chief over 2030 World Cup final boast

Morocco's Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has sharply criticized Royal Moroccan Football Federation (RMFF) President Fouzi Lekjaa for claiming the 2030 World Cup final will be held in Casablanca, despite FIFA's decision not yet being made. Akhannouch warned that such statements were premature and lacked respect for the governing body's process. The RMFF did not respond to a request for comment on Lekjaa's remarks. Morocco has been working towards hosting the 2030 World Cup, with a proposed 115,000-seat stadium currently 30% complete. The final will be one of three co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. A decision on the final's location is expected to be made in the coming months. Morocco's 2026 final host, New Jersey, was announced in February 2024. The World Cup final venue decision is a major issue, with Akhannouch emphasizing the importance of respecting the FIFA decision-making process.
