England close in on Pakistan whitewash in third Test as Robinson shines
Reported by Danish Ansari (Fact-Checker) · Al Jazeera - All News ·
England's hopes of whitewashing Pakistan in the third Test at Edgbaston are taking shape, with the tourists closing in on a 3-0 series victory. Ollie Robinson continued his outstanding summer with two wickets in his opening over, leaving Pakistan in a demoralised state. The tourists reached 52-2 before rain ended play early on day two, needing 268 runs to make England bat again. Robinson, 32, has been almost unplayable in this series, taking 21 wickets at an average of under seven runs each. He bowled exceptionally well, finishing the day with figures of 2-10 from his six overs. England's first-innings advantage has been extended to 320, with Harry Brook and Dan Lawrence scoring half-centuries to help their team. Brook was run out for 75 from 97 balls, while Lawrence made 65 from 82 balls. Despite some positives, Pakistan's position appears hopeless, with Shan Masood still at the crease on 21 alongside opener Azan Awais on 29. Pakistan batting coach Mike Smith believes Robinson is one of the most consistent bowlers in world cricket, and his team needs to find a way to combat his consistent performance. England's captain has been happy with his team's contribution, but was unable to make a big score himself. Pakistan's Mohammad Imran took his first Test wicket, dragging Lawrence's stumps after he dragged a wide ball onto his wicket. The series is now on the line, and England is well on its way to making it a 3-0 whitewash. The rain has put the match back on track, and the teams will return to the field tomorrow to continue the battle for victory.
